2011 : Teaching, translation and interpretation


Hanoi University

After a 2 year Master course in Europe, I returned to Vietnam and continued my teaching and research at the Department of French, Hanoi University. My main duties include teaching French language and writing skills to undergraduate students. In addition, I participate in maintaining an e-learning platform (Moodle) for lecturers and students. This platform allows updates on lecture timetable, examinations and grades to be posted. It also provides a forum for discussions between lecturers and students. Furthermore, I have applied my education technology background in improving traditional teaching methods, which does not incorporate any digital tools.
I am also involved in translation and interpretation work for French organisations in Vietnam and for teams of French specialists who help to improve Vietnamese teachers in their lecturing skills.

02/2008 – 05/2008: Internship at Kosmos software company (France)


I did a three-month internship in Kosmos, a software company that provides integrated solutions for content management. I was working in team of five to build a stimulation model for Digital Work Environment. I took care of the pedagogy part of the software, where I advised on the functionality of the software with regard to education, I looked for the relevant education content to demonstrate various functions of the software, I wrote the online help, prepared standard guidelines relevant for each subject. I also participated in software testing as an end-user.

10/2007 - 01/2008: Master degree projects at the University of Poitiers (France)


During this time, I participated in a couple of e-learning projects. One involved construction of a website for Electricity of France, to promote the awareness of energy savings amongst students (link: http://www.cite-eco.com/). I also worked in a team to create the content for an online platform as an e-learning resource for students at ENIL de Besançon Mamirolle (Ecole Nationale d'Industrie Laitière des biotechnologies et de l'eau, France). Another project is about making a video clip about mobile classes for CNDP (Centre National de Documentation Pédagogique de Poitiers).

My thesis topic was related to Digital Work Environment (DWE). Specifically, I analyzed the implementation of DWE by school members in France and its effectiveness. DWE is actually of great interest amongst the education community in France. This project was started by the Ministry of Education of France in 2003 to provide a digital environment which integrates all the services involved within a school context. For example, students can look up their timetable, course content, supplementary materials and scores through this DWE. Teachers can design curriculum, give quizzes, provide additional reading materials and perform online discussion outside class hours. The DWE is certainly also accessible by other school members such as directors and administrative staff; or by relevant people such as Education inspectors. Significantly, this environment for the first time offers a platform for parents to monitor the school information and activities or to check their kids’ performance or to communicate with school teachers. At the beginning, this project met with difficulties for many reasons. It could be due to the deficiency in IT skills of users, the hesitation to switch to an unheard of new tool, or simply due to the limitation of internet connection of school computers. From my research, I found that the major obstacle is, however, due to the lack of support from local government bodies for education technology. At school level, there is reluctance to implement new technology in education.

2003 - 2007: Teaching, translation and interpretation


I graduated with a Bachelor degree in pedagogy specialized in French language in 2001. I then studied translation in international relations in Belgium for 2 years. I started my teaching career in 2003 in Vietnam. I taught French as a foreign language at university level for around 4 years. During that time, I was aware of a huge demand from students for e-learning resources that are not available by traditional methods, which, for example, could be online websites or multimedia software. This is where I became interested in education technology and decided to attend the Master degree program in Media Engineering for education under the Erasmus Mundus scheme, which was based in 3 universities in France, Portugal and Spain.
